P7M viewers compared (2026): open a .p7m file, read the invoice, or check the signature

By Blink Brief · Updated  · How pages are made

To open a .p7m file you don't need to pay or install anything: AprireFileP7M.it and the Blink Brief P7M viewer take the document out in your browser for free, and InfoCert Sign's FREE licence and Aruba Sign do it on your computer. To check that the signature is legally valid, use InfoCert Sign, Aruba Sign, or an online verifier from InfoCert or Poste Italiane, which receive the file on their servers. Most of these tools have Italian pages only. All ten were checked on their own pages on 4 November 2026.

Short answer

  • Just open it, free, no upload: AprireFileP7M.it or the Blink Brief P7M viewer in the browser; the P7M Viewer app on an iPhone.
  • Check the signature: InfoCert Sign (FREE licence, English page) or Aruba Sign on your computer.
  • Check it online: InfoCert's online verification or Poste's Verificatore On Line; both receive the file.
  • An Italian e-invoice: AprireFileP7M.it or 2pdf.it make a PDF in Italian; the Blink Brief viewer shows it with English labels.

Opening a file and verifying it are different

Opening means taking the document out of the signed envelope. Verifying means checking the signer's certificate: that the document wasn't changed after signing, that the certificate comes from a trusted provider, and that it is a qualified certificate with legal value, the three checks Aruba Sign lists. A browser viewer that shows the signer's name has only read it from the file.

An attachment named smime.p7m is a signed or encrypted email, not an Italian document. A signed one can be opened like any .p7m; an encrypted one opens only in the recipient's email program.

Our product

The free Blink Brief P7M viewer opens .p7m files in your browser, several at once, without uploading them or signing up. It gives back the original PDF or XML, shows an Italian e-invoice with English labels to print or save as PDF, and shows who signed and when. It doesn't check whether the signature is legally valid or the certificate revoked, and it doesn't open ZIP archives.

Questions

How can I open a P7M file for free?

Use a free online viewer that reads the file in your browser, such as AprireFileP7M.it or the Blink Brief P7M viewer, or install InfoCert Sign (its FREE licence) or Aruba Sign. p7m.io shows the document free but charges €3.99 to download it.

Is there an English P7M viewer?

Yes. InfoCert's infocert-sign has an English page and app, the P7M Viewer iPhone app is in English, the European Commission's DSS demo is in English, and the Blink Brief P7M viewer shows Italian e-invoices with English labels. Aruba, Poste, p7m.io, AprireFileP7M.it and 2pdf.it have Italian pages only.

Which P7M viewers upload my file?

Poste's Verificatore On Line, InfoCert's online verification, 2pdf.it and the European Commission's DSS demo receive the file on their servers. AprireFileP7M.it, p7m.io and the Blink Brief viewer say the file is read in your browser; InfoCert Sign, Aruba Sign and the P7M Viewer app run on your device.

How do I check that a P7M signature is valid?

Use a verifier that checks the certificate against the trusted lists: InfoCert Sign or Aruba Sign on your computer, or the online verifiers of InfoCert and Poste, which take an upload. Opening the file alone doesn't check the signature.
